Volunteer Opportunities

Long Term Positions

Sustainability Coordinator

Passionate about sustainability and making a difference? TrailMix NWA is looking for a Sustainability Coordinator to help keep our events low-waste and eco-friendly. You’ll manage supplies like our wheat straw dishware (ensuring it’s washed and stored after events), coordinate the use of our pop-up recycle and compost bins, and handle drop-offs at recycling and composting centers. Whether organizing others to take on specific tasks or taking the lead yourself, you’ll ensure our commitment to sustainability stays strong. This role is perfect for someone who’s organized, environmentally conscious, and excited to help TrailMix leave the world better than we found it!

Volunteer Coordinator

Are you great at organizing and encouraging others to pitch in? TrailMix NWA needs a Volunteer Coordinator to keep our Sunday events running smoothly. You’ll manage volunteer sign-ups, recruit greeters, announcers, and Moment of Science presenters, (as well as volunteers for optional activities like leading stories, crafts, or discussions) and send reminders or find replacements if plans change. This role is perfect for someone who loves bringing people together and ensuring everything runs seamlessly!

Teen Group Leader

Are you ready to create something special for our TrailMix teens? We’re looking for an enthusiastic, community-minded leader to pioneer activities just for teens! As our first Teen Group Leader, you’ll collaborate with teen parents to build a program that makes teens feel welcome, even as we’re just getting started. You’ll lead engaging activities and discussions during meetups, while also organizing special outings beyond Sunday mornings—game nights, volunteer projects, outdoor adventures, and more. This role is perfect for someone excited to shape an inclusive, fun space from the ground up, helping teens and their families feel connected and involved in our community.

Hike Leader

The Hike Leader is responsible for guiding hikes during applicable TrailMix Sundays (not all meetups include trails) and organizing additional hike-only events throughout the year. You’ll research trail details (difficulty, length, duration) and share important info like special gear needs (headlamps, sturdy shoes) and trailhead facilities (e.g., bathrooms). You’ll also provide exact meeting coordinates when necessary to ensure participants can easily find the trailhead, especially in areas with limited cell service.

One-Time Opportunities

Moment of Science

Responsible for finding and announcing an interesting tidbit of scientific discovery, etc. during general announcements at the beginning of our standard TrailMix meetup. If you’d like to volunteer to do this at our next gathering, let us know.

Greeter

As a Greeter, you’ll be the first friendly face that members and newcomers see at TrailMix Sundays. You’ll welcome everyone as they arrive, answer questions, and help new attendees feel at ease by introducing them to others. This role is perfect for anyone who enjoys making people feel included and wants to play a key part in building our warm, inclusive community atmosphere.

Seasonal Event Committee

Instead of one committee handling all our events, we invite volunteers to join individual planning committees for each seasonal celebration. You can sign up to help plan activities for events like the Winter and Summer Solstices, Spring and Fall Equinoxes, Halloween Trunk or Treat, and more. Each committee is a one-time commitment, so you can choose the events that interest you and help make them unforgettable for our TrailMix community!

Nature Craft Host

Love getting creative with nature? As a one-time Nature Craft Host, you’ll lead a simple craft activity that brings nature into the mix—perfect for kids (and adults, too!). You’ll plan and guide a craft project, providing the necessary supplies and encouraging creativity with natural materials. This flexible, one-time role is ideal for those who want to contribute occasionally and offer a hands-on experience at our TrailMix gatherings.

Plan a Members' Night Out

Got an idea for a fun group outing? Whether it’s organizing a scrimmage game, leading a book club, hosting a dinner party, planning a trip to a local event, or just finding a unique activity to enjoy together, hosting a Members’ Night Out is a great way to bring the TrailMix community together and make new connections in a relaxed, enjoyable setting.

Lead a Crafternoon

Share your creativity and passion by leading a Crafternoon or sustainability workshop! Whether it’s a fun DIY craft session or a hands-on workshop on sustainable living, this is a great way to engage the TrailMix community. We’ll charge a fee per ticket to cover the cost of supplies, so you won’t need to provide everything yourself. It’s a chance to teach something you love, connect with others, and make a positive impact—all while keeping things fun and accessible!
